Who is it for?

If you're excited by the prospect of creating your dream home, but you're not totally sure where to start, then this course will be great for you.

Whether you're considering buying a Plot (or maybe you already have land), or you're planning a Major Renovation project, then this course will give you a fantastic grounding in what's needed to create your dream home.

There are lots of free Self-Build resources out there, blogs, websites, magazines etc . But have you covered everything, is it relevant, up todate and written by someone that has relevant qualifications?

This course is for you if you want something that's in one place, explains things in a logical and clear way, and cuts through to the essentials. I've created this course specifically to help at the early/strategic stages of a project as this is often where the steepest learning curve lies.

Why join?

Having worked on hundreds of projects during my career as an Architect, I know that decisions made early-on can have fundamental implications for any Self-Build project.

The key to a successful project is to identify potential issues early on, and head them off, before they become an actual problem for your project, that you then have to resolve !

To do this you need a good understanding of the process, and to be "ahead of the curve".

This course helps you do that. Saving you time, money...... & possibly your sanity, whilst supporting you to create the home of your dreams.

Inspiring Spaces : Design Workshops

These are a series of in-person design workshops (held in small groups) looking in detail at the design of key areas (or aspects) of your home.

Workshops planned include:

- Kitchen Design

- Lighting Design (both natural & artificial)

- Low Energy/Sustainable Design

- Garden Design

- Master Suite Design

The workshops will take place over a weekend (location tbc). They will look at principle design considerations for specific key areas (or aspects) of a home. Participants will then work on their own designs in small groups with input from myself & invited guest specialists.

The aim is to come away from the workshops more knowledgable, inspired and with your designs progressed !

If there are any other topics you'd like covered in a Workshop , just get in touch & let me know!

Who are they for?

If you've trawled magazines and Pinterest and have a board full of ideas, but don't know quite how to pin it down? Or, you're struggling to know where to even start, then these workshops are for you.

You may have already bought your "Major Renovation Project" and be looking at the kitchen, unsure where to start. Or you may have a plot with Planning permission for a new home, but you're not sure how to progress the design of (for instance) the Master Suite.

We'll look at how to take these " off the page" and turn them in to a space that meets the regulations, works both practically & beautifully for you ........without breaking the bank.

The workshops will be fun, friendly and inspirational and you'll get to meet other Self-Builders in your situation!

Why join?

As an Architect and Interior Designer I know that the most successful projects have been well thought out from the beginning........& details have been agreed a long time before you get on to site.

It's natural that initially your focus is on getting planning approval, are your funds in place, can you find the right builder, and hundreds of other things. But leaving lots of the detail until later can be a big mistake, impacting on the design quality, as well as costing you more in terms of both time & money.

For instance, understanding Lighting Principles (for both natural & arificial lighting) before plans are frozen can really help your whole scheme, as good lighting design can make a huge difference to a home.

You'll come away from the workshops, more knowledgable, inspired, & with your designs progressed.
